Hotel Helvetia Genova

Lovely helpful reception staff here. Loved the city but couldn't pre-arrange a taxi the day prior to pick us up at 5am to take us to the airport for the first of our 3 flights to Greece! They don't DO THAT! I tried messaging the taxi company all day & night but just got automated messages continually sent and they wouldn't answer their phone whenever I rang! We were out on the dark street with all our luggage panicking at 5am the morning we HAD TO GET TO THE AIRPORT! We also felt very unsafe. Luckily I noticed a taxi over the other side of the square and ran over & he was available. I don't know WHAT we would have done otherwise!!! It's a disgrace that this can happen in a huge city like Genova! Apart from that we loved the city.

Really good hotel. Excellent position not too far from Piazza Principe train station. A variety of buses stop outside. Downhill 5 minute walk to the harbour. Very friendly staff. Good breakfast. My single room with en suite was a decent size. Looked a little dated, but that really doesn't bother me. Bed very comfortable. There was some noise from the alley at the side, but it didn't prevent me from sleeping. Only negatives were the dull colours of the decor/bathroom tiling. Corridors could do with a lick of paint.

The minor points I could mention are far outweighed by the friendlyness and service of the staff and the overall positive experience of our stay. The room was decent and the bed very comfortable ,breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice,my partner has a food allergy which I had forgot to mention when booking but was catered for on the spot. Would recommend and definitely stay there again.

Only booked in for one night as we were in transit ahead of getting onto a cruise ship. Its an old building so you expect some limitations (the lift was definitely one of them). It is very well located close to the train station and the Marina area. The Room was clean and functional if somewhat small and a bit dated. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful with a good selection of pastries. Reception folks could definitely be more attuned to the challenges of tourists - some were, some weren't. More than once had people on the phone and were not even recognised while standing waiting for attention. Battled to get clear method and directions to the port terminal the following morning but suspect it was more to do with a language barrier than not wanting to assist. Cleaning staff tended to ignore you so you had to navigate over and around their goodies in the corridors. Wasn't expensive and served our one night requirement.
